I love looking up at the night sky from the comfort of my own backyard. It's beautiful up there!
But... I recently went camping and stayed in a park known for it's astrological views. Big open space. No intrusion of the lights from the city. And though the sky was a little cloudy that night, the views were still incomparable. I can't imagine a night more peaceful or more beautiful than sleeping under the stars; the last thing you see before closing your eyes for the night - a mesmerizing, big, bright moon, it's light casting shadows down over the trees, creating intricate shapes and mystery.
That night inspired me to paint this scene. The moon, the trees, the mix of midnight blues, purples, and blacks... I hope it brings you that peaceful, dreamy sensation every time you look at this painting, the way that night dazzled my spirit.
